No Lions at Georgetown

Some Christians faced lions in the Coliseum rather than deny Jesus.

At the theoretically-Catholic Georgetown University, all it takes is a White House request.

From “Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House Request,” by Edwin Mora for CNSNews.com:

Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS” — symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ — because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.

A Georgetown official told CNSNews: “The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches…”

So they covered up Jesus Christ.

Addendum: The White House responds:

Decisions made about the backdrop for the speech were made to have a consistent background of American flags, which is standard for many presidential events,” said White House spokesman Shin Inouye in a statement released Thursday.

The White House wants a “consistent background.”

What, they don’t appreciate diversity?
