I’m a bit behind others in expressing outrage about this, but Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to give a standing ovation (2:22 in video above) to Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon’s criticism of Arizona’s law supporting the enforcement of federal immigration law deserves special criticism.
The U.S. Attorney General, no matter who he or she may be, is the chief prosecutor in the land. A prosecutor who does not respect the law (as in, the full body of our laws) tends to undermine the authority of the law, and is very dangerous in other ways.
The job of attorney general has specific and in some ways unique responsibilities. General Holder would have upheld his better if he had stayed in his seat.
