Wind Energy – A Booming Nuisance?

It seems that wind turbines are not the harmonious alternative to fossil fuels that liberal environmentalists claim.  Instead, wind turbines are eyesores that kill birds, create massive noise, and diminish property values.

The New York Times reports that some residents of Vinalhaven, Maine learned that lesson the hard way.Source: istockphoto

Many folks on this small Maine Island initially welcomed wind turbines as an alternative energy source.  It is hard to blame them.  The main-stream-media and liberal politicians falsely portray “green” energy as a panacea for everything that ails the American way of life.

However, it appears wind turbines are ruining the way of life for residents of this quiet Northeast Island.

Vinalhaven resident Art Lindgren, who originally welcomed the wind turbines, told the New York Times,

In the first 10 minutes, our jaws dropped to the ground … Nobody in the area could believe it. They were so loud.

Mr. Lindgren’s wife, Cheryl, is fed up.  She explains:

The quality of life that we came here for was quiet … You don’t live in a place where you have to take an hour-and-15-minute ferry ride to live next to an industrial park. And that’s where we are right now.

Wind turbine noise is so bad reluctant liberals are filing lawsuits all across the country to halt construction and remove these behemoth structures.  In the rush to force alternative energy, unintended consequences like dead birds, huge costs, and diminished property values are ignored.

Your heart goes out to the Lingren’s, but when communities blindly follow liberal promises, they reap what they sow.  Mrs. Lindgren lamented,

I remember the sound of silence so palpable, so merciless in its depths, that you could almost feel your heart stop in sympathy … Now we are prisoners of sonic effluence. I grieve for the past.

That last noise wasn’t a wind turbine – it was the sound of another person falling off of the far-left environmentalist bandwagon.
