Outrage of the Day

The private jet tax breaks President Obama condemned at his press conference yesterday were reauthorized by his own stimulus bill, Lachlan Markay of the Heritage Foundation reports.

Every House Republican and all but three Senate Republicans (one of whom switched to the Democratic Party soon thereafter) voted against the stimulus bill.

On January 29, 2010, President Obama called out Republican Members of Congress for attending ribbon cuttings for projects funded by the stimulus bill they voted against.

Apparently, his belief at that time was that those who got the stimulus enacted were the only ones in a position to take responsibility for it.

By the way, the purpose of the tax break (officially, an “accelerated depreciation” provision in the tax code) is to create jobs by stimulating the purchase of airplanes. No word on why the White House no longer likes the idea.
