U.S. Representative Andre Carson (D-IN) accused fellow members of the U.S. House of Representatives of wanting not only to restore Jim Crow but also of wanting to see him lynched.

“Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second class citizens. Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me… hanging on a tree,” Carson said.

Had Carson made these remarks of rank and file Tea Party activists, it would have been bad enough, but he made them of fellow Members of Congress. In so doing, he violated clause 1 of the U.S. House of Representatives Code of Official conduct, which states: “A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall conduct himself at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.”

Carson clearly engaged in conduct that discredits the House.

The House should begin censure proceedings immediately. To be fair to Carson, he should be given ample time to name names of fellow Members he believes are bigots and would-be murderers.
