Project 21’s Kevin Martin Blasts MSNBC Contributor for Using Trayvon Martin’s Death for Political Gain

P21KevinMartinAccusations about and the investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida that happened a month ago today has racial tensions across America running high.

Project 21 spokesman Kevin Martin is very concerned about how, when the case began drawing national attention, there were craven politicos on the left who seemed more than willing to jump into the fray to use the incident to bash their conservative opponents.

Perhaps the most egregious was Karen Finney on MSNBC who, in a rant that was broadcast on March 22, painted conservatives with a broad brush — indicting them for fostering an environment that led to Martin’s death.  Finney claimed conservatives “reinforce and validate old stereotypes that associate the poor and welfare as criminal behavior with African-Americans and people of color, calling us lazy, undeserving recipients of public assistance.  In the case of Trayvon, those festering stereotypes had lethal consequences.”

Project 21’s Martin replies:

While the events surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death are tragic and deserve answers, it didn’t take long for the mainstream media to be used to turn a personal loss into a tool that is pushing the liberal political agenda.  Karen Finney might be the most egregious example, but she is just one the long list of people apparently willing to use the Martin death to gain a political advantage.  The fact that Finney reached back years to justify her accusations against Rush Limbaugh and slammed one presidential candidate for not saying anything at all  — at a time when President Obama was similarly silent — shows the thinness of her claims.
