18 Sep 2012 Bloomberg Bans Big Beverages

Congratulations to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg!

With today’s vote by the city’s Board of Health, sugary drinks above 16 ounces are now banned in the businesses that the Board can regulate (fast-food restaurants, movie theaters, arenas, etc.).

In the end, Big Gulps are still legal, but the ability of those affected business owners to make their bottoms lines at the end of the month will likely be much harder.  And freedom of choice is chipped away that much more.

Perhaps now that this chapter of Bloomberg’s nanny-state diary is closed, he can devote more time to actually abating a clear and present danger to Big Apple denizens — the spread of West Nile virus.
