Federal Recognition of Gay Marriage Means Higher Taxes for Many

RedDollarSignCongratulations to gays for winning a crucial victory that will enable them to enjoy a privilege previously denied them: Higher tax rates.

Now that DOMA has been struck down, many gay married couples will be pushed into higher tax brackets. Perhaps that’s the REAL reason for President Obama’s shift on the issue.

Two single gay individuals earning $200,000 each per year might expect to pay $46,831 in federal taxes, for a combined tax liability of $93,662. The same two individuals, filing jointly as a “married” couple might expect to pay $103,772 in federal taxes (see http://www.calcxml.com/calculators/federal-income-tax-calculator) — a nearly 11% tax hike.

No need to thank the Supreme Court. Your increased taxes are thanks enough
