Additional Zimmerman Comment from Project 21

More members of the Project 21 black leadership network are commenting on the George Zimmerman verdict and reactions following it:

P21CouncilNeddArchbishop Council Nedd II:

I understand the legal mandate of juries in criminal proceedings.  I understand that an individual’s guilt must be determined beyond a reasonable doubt.

I also understand how the jury applied it in the acquittal of George Zimmerman.  However, as a black man who lives in rural Pennsylvania and has often found himself the only minority in any given room, the acquittal does cause me some angst.

But I am putting my angst aside.  Trayvon Martin’s life was lost.  George Zimmerman was acquitted.  Neither of those things can be undone.  Zimmerman will be living with the fact that he took an innocent life for a long time to come.

And, for the remainder of his life, George Zimmerman is “that guy.”  Every major city in this country is now pretty much off limits to him.  He can’t spend a Saturday afternoon at a shopping mall.  He won’t even be able to be visit the most prominent attraction in Florida — Disney World — which is less than 30 minutes from his former home.  His life as he knew it is over.

Those who are upset about the fact of the Zimmerman acquittal.  I suggest that, when all is said and done, he will be sufficiently punished by his dubious fame.

P21JeromeHudsonJerome Hudson:

Sadder still about the aftermath of the Zimmerman decision is that some black folk will go back to killing each other at an alarming rate — from street violence in Chicago to the murder of the unborn at abortion clinics.

And, unfortunately, the media, celebrities and Hollywood elites will go back to not giving a flip about it.
