With a Successful 2017 in the Books, National Center Sets Sights on 2018

What does it say that liberal Apple asked for OUR advice on dealing with shareholder proposals?

What does it suggest when newspapers such as the Washington Post publish “fake news” about us?

What does it mean that Al Gore’s office responded to our criticism with ad hominem attacks?

And what does it tell you that corporations actually changed their policies to placate us?

These things tell us that The National Center’s programs are very effective.

We had an absolutely incredible and impactful year in 2017.  Here are just a few of many examples…

  • Six corporations adopted new protections for people of faith in exchange for our agreement to withdraw shareholder proposals. Two other corporations altered policies as a result of our activism at shareholder meetings: Disney-owned ESPN issued new guidelines limiting political commentary days after we grilled its CEO over political bias, and Time Warner-owned CNN fired three employees for “fake news” days after CEO Jeff Bewkes promised us “to recommit… to try to be independent… [I’m] very sincere to try…”

  • An Apple lawyer sought our advice on how to deal with shareholder proposals offered by other groups. This is despite our frequent run-ins with CEO Tim Cook, including one that prompted Cook to use an expletive and deride profit — much to the horror of the investment press.

  • The Washington Post published a story falsely suggesting that our black leadership network Project 21 had never before uttered the term “white supremacist” when Project 21 members criticized an ESPN reporter for using the term to describe conservatives.

  • An Al Gore spokesman accused us of being a shill for the fossil fuel industry (from which we receive zero support) after we published a report just before the release of his “An Inconvenient Truth” sequel showing that he used 21 times the energy of the average American family to power just one of his homes. The report earned more than $100 in media (including an interview on “Tucker Carlson Tonight”) for every dollar it cost to produce.

  • The National Association of Corporate Directors took time during a recent conference to talk about our shareholder proposals, a sign of our growing influence.

These successes wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of thousands of individuals.  Please help us continue to be an effective force for liberty in 2018 by making a tax-deductible year-end donation today at https://nationalcenter.org/donate/. Thank you!

On behalf of the entire National Center family, have a blessed holiday season.
