REV. DR. ANGELA SHADD KITTRELL

Angela Kittrell

Project 21 Ambassador Rev. Dr. Angela Shadd Kittrell is a retired educator with many years of service to public and private schools as a high school teacher, principal, and school district coordinator of assessment. She is the pastor of two churches: Bowie United Methodist Church in Bowie, MD, and Wilson United Methodist Church in Gambrills, MD.

Rev. Kittrell entered the preaching ministry in 1996. She was ordained and licensed in 1998 and has served in various leadership roles in the AME and Baptist churches. For several years, she served as the Minister of Christian Education and Minister to Women at the historic Little Zion Baptist Church in Colonial Beach, Virginia. Rev. Kittrell is the founder of Emmanuel Faith Ministries, a thriving church plant in Westmoreland County, VA. She is the spiritual daughter of Apostle Hugh and Pastor Letha Smith. In March 2012, Bishop Tudor Bismark of Harare, Zimbabwe, consecrated her to the office of Bishop. She currently serves as the episcopal leader of the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia Diocese of Jabula New Life Ministries International and is a member of the organization’s international executive board.

Due to the mounting difficulty in recruiting teachers, Dr. Kittrell returned to public education and presently serves as a high school public Advanced Placement and Honors English teacher in Prince George’s County Public Schools.

Dr. Kittrell actively serves as the Chair of the Bowie (Maryland) Community Development Corporation. She also serves as a board member to the Old Bowie Arts Festival in Bowie, Maryland, The Mercy-Justice Network of Maryland, and The CARES Justice Institute, a street gang violence interrupter in Jacksonville, Fl.

Dr. Kittrell began her college education at Virginia State University. She received a B.A. degree in English and Journalism from the University of Maryland. She holds graduate and terminal degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Union University, and United Theological Seminary.

A native of Washington, D.C., Dr. Kittrell and her husband, Pastor James Kittrell, are the parents of three children, Phyllis, Larry, and Brittany, and the grandparents of five.
