JOHN BURNETT

Project 21 member John Burnett is the managing director and founder of 1 Empire Group, a consulting company specializing in business management and communications services. John is an expert in financial services who has worked for Citi, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and S&P Global-Platts. He specializes in the oversight of pricing and analytics of the physical commodities markets for oil, gas and metals and risk assessment, compliance and operational performance programs in the financial services industry.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from New York University, and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University. John understands the importance of education, giving back to his alma mater and serving the broader community. He is a board member of New York University’s Alumni Association. He is also an adjunct instructor at Hampton University and New York University. Additionally, John volunteers for P.E.N.C.I.L. – Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning – and is a founder of the Summit Academy Charter School in Red Hook, NY.

Since 2014, John has written opinion editorials featured in Black Enterprise, HuffPost, Real Clear Markets, The Hill, Wall Street Journal, and many others covering a wide array of issues from business and the economy to politics and policy. He is also a frequent guest commentator on Fox News, Fox Business Network and Newsmax. John is a strategic advisor to the New York State Republican Party and former candidate for New York City Comptroller.
