Trump Congratulated on \u201cWell-Written and Well-Delivered Speech\u201d to \u201cMake Americans Freer, Happier and Even More Prosperous\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Washington, D.C. \u2013 Following President Donald Trump\u2019s first State of the Union address, black activists with the Project 21 leadership network<\/a> are available for comment.<\/p>\n

In tonight\u2019s address, President Trump spoke of a \u201cnew American moment\u201d in which \u201c[t]here has never been a better time to start living the American Dream.\u201d He touted the approximately 3 million workers receiving bonuses tied to his tax reform package as well as his desire for \u201cevery American to know the dignity of a hard day\u2019s work.\u201d He also said: \u201cAmericans love their country, and they deserve a government that shows them the same love and loyalty in return.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the address, which touched on divisive issues including immigration, taxes and national security, President Trump asked lawmakers \u201cto set aside our differences, to seek out common ground, and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people we were elected to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTonight, President Trump reminded us that \u2013 by following the principles of freedom and liberty \u2013 America has experienced unprecedented growth that includes the lowest black unemployment rate in a generation, the fastest stock market growth in decades and GDP growth not seen in recent times. While major challenges remain, his stewardship over the last year makes it clear that we can build on these achievements and make Americans freer, happier and even more prosperous.\u201d

\u201cPresident Trump wasn\u2019t just presidential tonight. He highlighted the accomplishments of his first year while calling attention to our desperate need for bipartisan legislation to solve systemic problems facing the nation.\u00a0At crucial moments, however, liberals failed to rise to the occasion \u2013 often withholding their applause or approval. Why wouldn’t liberals cheer on the lowest black unemployment rate in 17 years?\u00a0Or the President\u2019s resolve to eradicate the scourge of MS-13 killing innocent Americans?\u201d

\u201cWhether you love him or hate him, President Donald Trump deserves to celebrate \u2013 brag, if you will \u2013 about his administration\u2019s accomplishments. Yet, when the President brought attention to black unemployment being at historic lows, members of the Congressional Black Caucus remained seated with angry faces \u2013 without even a hint or gesture of acknowledging such wonderful news. One would think they would applaud the fact that many of their constituents are now gainfully employed. It shows just how ineffective black congressional leadership is on the left, and drives home the point that President Trump didn\u2019t have to meet with the CBC in order to do for its constituents what the CBC members themselves were repeatedly unable to accomplish.\u201d
