{"id":33172,"date":"2019-07-09T21:53:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T01:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/?p=33172"},"modified":"2019-07-09T21:53:20","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T01:53:20","slug":"immigration-ideas-in-project-21s-blueprint-cited-in-newsmax-commentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/ncppr\/2019\/07\/09\/immigration-ideas-in-project-21s-blueprint-cited-in-newsmax-commentary\/","title":{"rendered":"Immigration Ideas in Project 21\u2019s Blueprint Cited in Newsmax Commentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Newsmax columnist highlights <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/project-21\/\">Project 21<\/a><\/strong> in a recent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/clarencevmckee\/harris-omar-tlaib-socialist\/2019\/07\/03\/id\/923222\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commentary<\/a><\/strong> about immigration policy, noting that the recommendations found in Project 21&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueprint.project21.org\/\">\u201cBlueprint for a Better Deal for Black America\u201d<\/a> <\/strong>are being wholly ignored by the liberals\u2019 political superstars.<\/p>\n<p>Clarence V. McKee, commenting on liberal presidential candidates, writes that they \u201conly care about protecting illegal immigrants; that is, giving them free health care and other benefits as well as decriminalizing illegal entry across our borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further suggests that \u201c[a]ll other Americans \u2014 black, white, brown, veterans, seniors, the middle class, permanent residents, and naturalized citizens\u00a0 \u2014 are\u00a0not\u00a0a priority\u201d to these liberal leaders.<\/p>\n<p>As for a solution, he notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Project 21, an organization of black conservative leaders, supported the president\u2019s enforcement policies to &#8220;stop the unfair strain on public services caused by illegal immigration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Its\u00a0report, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueprint.project21.org\/\">&#8220;Blueprint for a Better Deal for Black America&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>observes that taxpayer funded programs are &#8220;being reduced or unavailable to black Americans in too many communities due to illegal residents taking advantage of them.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Project 21\u2019s Blueprint specifically states that black Americans \u201cshouldn\u2019t be forced to subsidize people who are not in the United States legally\u201d For immigration reform, it recommends:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Barring illegal aliens from accessing any public services, except emergency services.<\/li>\n<li>Terminating federal funding of any social service agency that provides non-emergency services to illegal immigrants.<\/li>\n<li>Prosecuting providers and recipients who allow scarce federally-funded social services to be used by non-citizens unlawfully in the country.<\/li>\n<li>Ending states\u2019 special programs for assisting unlawful immigrants and redirect those funds to needy citizens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Echoing Project 21\u2019s concerns, McKee writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Illegal immigration drives down wages in the low-skilled labor market and hurts blacks and others who are disproportionately concentrated in that sector\u2026<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s truly sad is the silence of most black civil rights and political leaders on the negative impact of illegal immigration on their own communities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As for action on the Blueprint\u2019s recommendations, McKee laments, \u201c[t]hey haven\u2019t seen anything yet!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To read all of McKee\u2019s commentary at Newsmax, click <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/clarencevmckee\/harris-omar-tlaib-socialist\/2019\/07\/03\/id\/923222\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Among his many accomplishments, Clarence V. McKee is a former chairman of the Florida Association of Broadcasters and former co-owner of WTVT-TV-Tampa. He has served on the boards of directors of Barnett Banks, Florida Power, Checker\u2019s Drive-ins and American Life Insurance Company. During the presidential administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W.
