And the Biden Administration has fast-tracked the consideration process in an apparent effort to blunt as much opposition to this plan as possible.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-13544 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/cohen_sm-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"158\" \/>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/heartlanddailynews.com\/2022\/03\/health-insurers-must-provide-gender-reassignment-hhs-proposed-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">analysis<\/a> by National Center Senior Fellow <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/ncppr\/staff\/bonner-cohen\/\">Bonner Cohen, Ph.D.,<\/a><\/strong> that appeared in The Heartland Institute\u2019s Health Care News, Bonner reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[T]he rule reinstates Obama-era language under the ACA\u2019s section 1557, which deals with discrimination. The Trump administration removed sexual orientation and gender identity from the anti-discrimination language, and Biden\u2019s HHS is putting them back in.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The public comment period is a minuscule 22 days. These periods are usually 60 days or more.<\/p>\n<p>Bonner cited experts in the health care field who called the proposed Biden rule vague and legally suspect. Suggesting that the White House is ignoring the science in this situation, Bonner quoted Matthew Eyles of AHIP \u2013 an insurance industry trade association \u2013 who called the proposal \u201ca slippery slope of eliminating benefit limits that are based on clinical evidence, support value-based care, and ensure affordable premiums.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This, Bonner pointed out, \u201cis part of a broader effort to force health insurers to pay for what is ultimately social policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obamacare and all of its mandates <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/fact-checker\/wp\/2014\/11\/06\/obamas-claim-that-obamacare-has-reduced-health-care-inflation-every-single-year-since-it-was-passed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed<\/a><\/strong> to reduce health care costs as was promised.
