{"id":7928,"date":"2011-10-07T17:41:23","date_gmt":"2011-10-07T21:41:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ncdata.wpengine.com\/?p=3259"},"modified":"2017-10-04T15:08:39","modified_gmt":"2017-10-04T19:08:39","slug":"blog-young-blood-on-the-white-house-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/ncppr\/2011\/10\/07\/blog-young-blood-on-the-white-house-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Blood on the White House Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3261 size-thumbnail alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/nationalcenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/SafariScreenSnapz006-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"SafariScreenSnapz006\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>After having to sue the Air Force under the auspices of the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch recently revealed that the trip Michelle Obama, her daughters, extended family and staff took to Africa last June cost taxpayers an estimated $424,142 for air travel alone (and $928.44 for \u201cbulk food\u201d on board).\u00a0 According to Judicial Watch, \u201cOther expenses \u2014 meals (off the plane), transportation, security, various services, etc. \u2014 have yet to be disclosed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton, \u201cThis trip was as much an opportunity for the Obama family to go on a safari as it was a trip to conduct government business.\u201d\u00a0 He added that the trip, in which Michelle made some speeches about becoming politically aware while also meeting Nelson Mandela and taking the family to museums and on that safari, \u201cwasted tax dollars and the resources of our overextended military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the oddest finding from the FOIA disclosure was that first daughters Malia and Sasha \u2014 13 and 10 years old, respectively \u2014 were listed on the passenger manifests as \u201csenior staff.\u201d\u00a0 According to the White House web site, Valerie Jarrett and David Plouffe are considered \u201csenior advisors.\u201d \u00a0No sign of the first daughters among that chain of command\u2026 yet.<\/p>\n<p>Project 21 member Robin Carter-Martin has her own take on the Obama girls\u2019 apparent first (and very important) jobs:<\/p>\n<p>First Lady Michelle Obama\u2019s daughters, Malia and Sasha, were listed as \u201csenior staff\u201d for their $432,142 trip to Africa!<\/p>\n<p>My first reaction was that I couldn\u2019t believe the expense. \u00a0My second reaction was that it was a stupid move. \u00a0But then I remembered that not many people in the Obama Administration appear to be much smarter than a 7th grader.\u00a0 So, yeah, Malia and Sasha are probably as qualified as anyone else in the administration to be considered \u201csenior staff.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After having to sue the Air Force under the auspices of the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch recently revealed that the trip Michelle Obama, her daughters, extended family and staff took to Africa last June cost taxpayers an estimated $424,142 for air travel alone&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1,74],"tags":[77],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.4 -
