Project 21’s Swimp Supports Scrapping Minimum Wage

Asked to react to the news that Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) is calling for an end to the federal minimum wage requirement, Project 21 member Stacy Swimp defended the idea because wages mandated by regulation are “killing small and medium-sized businesses.  On top of that, Stacy noted that “every time the minimum wage goes up, in particular, black teenagers can’t get jobs.”

When the host suggested that conservatives say that lower taxes increase consumer spending and the same notion might apply to a higher minimum wage, Stacy called this a straw man argument because of the increased unemployment that follows an increased minimum wage.  Stacy noted, “if we have more people in the unemployment line, we have fewer people spending money.”
