In the fall of 2022, the National Center for Public Policy Research launched Able Americans, a new project to support Americans living with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.

While there are many organizations advocating for more government spending and more bureaucracy, there have been none advocating for solutions that harness the free market, emphasize individual freedom and choice, and remove barriers to progress erected by big government. We believe the principles of free markets, individual liberty, and personal responsibility provide the greatest hope for meeting the challenges facing America in the 21st century, an individual’s level of disability notwithstanding.

An intensive overview of existing federal and state programs is being undertaken that will help drive solutions that remove bureaucratic barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare, housing, jobs, education, and transportation so that disabled Americans can have an equal opportunity to live their best possible lives. NCPPR is committed to advancing innovations to existing approaches and advocating new policies/programs that focus on free market solutions that lower costs and have better person-centered outcomes.

The Able Americans project is intended to positively impact the lives of people with disabilities of all kinds, including those with special physical needs, mental and developmental chronic health challenges, and substance abuse problems—by removing the barriers created by government programs and advancing free-market solutions that lead to better outcomes.

Able Americans through NCPPR will take the following approaches:

  • Conduct a comprehensive research study evaluating government policies, agencies, and regulations that impact people with disabilities, including wounded warriors and those with mental health or substance abuse issues, and their families.
  • Sponsor aggressive media campaign to inform thought leaders, legislators, stakeholders and the American public of the many ways government programs are hurting the very citizens they are meant to help.
  • Develop and lead a diverse coalition dedicated to identifying and highlighting alternative approaches, solutions, and proposed public policy and legislative reforms at the state and federal levels.
