Conservative Cancer Cups?

Disposable Cup, help, concept of Begging

According to The Hill, Democrats think Republicans want members of Congress, their staff, and visitors to  drink from dangerous cups. Really.

Nine Democrats, in a letter to Speaker John Boehner, wrote that they are worried about the danger caused by styrofoam cups in their cafeteria, as opposed to the more expensive cups used when Democrats ran the House.

To further their argument, the Members of Congress recycle an old scare, that the cups will actually make people sick. In their letter to Speaker John Boehner, they write:

Eliminating polystyrene-related health impacts will result in fewer lost work days and lower heath insurance costs for the House and its staff.

Their cancer claims are bogus, of course. Perhaps styrofoam cups take longer to degrade that the expensive ones preferred by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But in Washington these days, it seems like just about anything can degrade — really quickly.
