Senior fellow Jeff Stier, head of the National Center’s Risk Analysis Division, appeared on the National Public Radio program “Tell Me More” on 9/1/11. During the segment, Jeff questions the relevance of the federal, taxpayer-supported office of the surgeon general in light of it’s current officeholder, Dr. Regina Benjamin, allegedly wanting to make women’s hair care concerns and its relationship to exercise a top priority. Joining Jeff and host Michelle Martin is Dr. Reed Tuckson of the United Health Group, which hosted Dr. Benjamin when she recently urged black women to not forgo activity because of concerns that it will harm their hairstyles.
