Project 21’s McClendon Critical of SOTU Boycott

As President Donald Trump delivers his first State of the Union address on January 30, there will be one absence the media will be looking for – the “designated survivor.” This is the cabinet member who, like in the television show, will be taken to a secure location as a precaution against a cataclysmic event occurs that wipes out the top members of the government’s chain of succession.

But there will be other notable absences the mainstream media is also likely to highlight. At least five radical liberal members of the House of Representatives – Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, Pramila Jayapal of Washington, John Lewis of Georgia, Maxine Waters of California and Frederica Wilson of Florida – are pointedly boycotting this major presidential address delivered in their chamber of the U.S. Capitol.

Why? Disrespect. Waters curtly asks: “What does he have to say that I’d be interested in?” Lewis, who calls Trump a “racist,” says it would be a “waste of my time.” Wilson, who has sparred openly with Trump in the past, thinks it’s an embarrassment to be seen with him.’”

Project 21 member Emery McClendon laments that these lawmakers don’t “understand the importance of what President Trump is doing.”

Indeed, progress during the Trump Administration has been particularly beneficial for black Americans.

Speaking about the importance of the Trump presidency and this speech for black Americans and the short-sightedness of these lawmakers in pointedly ignoring it, Emery said:

This year’s State of The Union address could be one of the most important in history for all Americans – but especially important for those of us in the black community.

President Trump has turned this nation’s economy around, benefitting blacks in areas such as housing and employment as well as through tax breaks that will benefit black-owned business.

Because of this event’s significance, it’s important to note that too many members of the Congressional Black Caucus have chosen not to attend this event for racial reasons.

Considering all the progress we are experiencing, why would the CBC – a group representing so many black communities nationwide – not want to all be there to help our President share this information about that progress with a unified voice?

We are one nation, and we are must strive together to make our nation great again. Those who have a leadership role in black America instead seem to be trying to drive a wedge between us. They need to understand the importance of what President Trump is doing to turn our nation back to one that is prosperous and welcoming for all who still seek the American Dream.

Army veteran Ricky Taylor asked Waters if he could take her seat next Tuesday. On social media, Emery has been suggesting that every empty seat should be filled by a veteran or active-duty hero.

While they won’t be sitting on the floor, liberal members are planning to stock the balcony seats with illegal immigrants hoping to gain amnesty – the very issue that shut down the government last week. While liberals were quite perturbed at Representative Joe Wilson’s “you lie!” outburst during a 2009 address to a joint session by President Barack Obama, they run the risk of their guests breaking decorum since immigration activists have had no qualms about protesting in congressional office buildings or outside of Senator Chuck Schumer’s New York City residence. “This is not good!” noted Emery.
