President Obama Prioritizes His Own Agenda Above Keeping Americans Employed

Washington, D.C. – Tom Borelli, Ph.D., director of the National Center for Public Policy Research’s Free Enterprise Project, issued the following statement in response to the Rally for Economic Survival that was held in Louisiana’s Cajundome. Thousands of rally participants called for President Obama to suspend his ban on deep-water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Louisiana economy is a casualty of President Obama’s war on fossil fuels. The environmental disaster caused by the Deepwater Horizon explosion served as an opportunity for the president to advance his progressive energy policy that discourages development of our national resources.

My commentary, ” Obama’s War on Fossil Fuels,” published this week on Fox News’ opinion page, details President Obama’s assault on fossil fuels. In addition to the drilling moratorium, the president remains adamant in pushing economy-killing cap-and-trade legislation.

As we witnessed with health care, President Obama will drive his agenda over the will of the American people. It’s outrageous the president’s decision is going to send thousands of Americans on the Gulf Coast to the unemployment line.

Companies such as Dow Chemical, aware of Obama’s anti-fossil fuel agenda, are investing in Saudi Arabia instead of the Gulf Coast. Obama is chasing good paying jobs overseas.
